about/artist statement

About the work of Annemarie Cilon / The inherent theme of my work as an artist/designer is 'interconnectedness' with all things. We are all interconnected, the trees depend on the insects, on the earth, the sun and the wind; we all depend on each other. With my work I want to increase the human awareness to the meaning of nature in our local environment. Increasing our awareness with nature helps us to feel in touch with our selves and to our earth where we live on. Taking care of the earth, is taken care of ourselves. "Country is loved, needed, and cared for, and cares for her people in turn".*01 I am inspired by the knowledge in the fields of art, ecology, philosophy, geography, architecture, anthropology, science, mindfulness and traditional wisdom. For my artistic work I explore local natural places like a forest or river and urban nature in cities. I capture the essence and language of those places through field-recordings, video and photography.  I observe the interconnection between the 'living natural beings' like a plant with 'non-living' materials like a stone wall. In addition I am observing the garden as a meeting place with nature and as a portal between two different landscapes. As part of my work I quote texts from poets, philosophers, indigenous people and writers. As a designer I create unique hand-painted bags of organic fabrics and other self-designed items under my label: 'Himinn' which means 'the sky'. I also work on assignment for the label Kurashi Design by Ilona Prins. Himinn- and Kurashi Design are located in the Broederstraat 4 Kampen, open from 8/10/2020. I studied Visual Arts at Minerva Academy Groningen, The Photoacademy Amsterdam and The Gerrit Rietveld Academy Amsterdam. More information>>>>Biography.
